Parking Brake Cable

I did try to use the aftermarket cable made for the Falcon but I wasn't happy with the fit. The short plastic outer cover makes a bee line from backing plate to the mounting bracket on the floor pan when the axle is hanging off the ground stretching the cable tight. The longer factory metal cable cover has a arch going to point A and B.

According to the Master Parts Catalog, the 65 9" Mustang rear end parking brake cable is 9" longer than the Falcon cable so I decided to cut off 4.5" from both ends and swage a new cable stops on the cable.

After calling every repair shop including boat and motorcycle shops that I could think of who might have a swage crimping tool in their tool box, it appeared things wasn’t looking too good. I was talking to a friend about my little issue with finding a local shop and he said he has a friend who works on small aircraft in the next town over that happen to have the correct tool to swage cable stops.

Front brake cable was replaced with a '61 NOS cable which is 1-1/8" longer than the '60 cable. I'm guessing since the '60 transmission mount is different than the '61-64 is the reason the cable length changed. Since I have an aftermarket transmission mount this worked out great.
