Rewiring
While I was under the dash installing the Vintage Air I notice a broken connector on the neutral safety switch. After poking around some more I found myself on the phone with Ron Francis purchasing the XP-67 18-Circuit fuse panel.
Being a rookie at rewiring I expected some issues on my part and boy did I have some. 2-steps forward and 1-step back...going from plan A to plan B, C, D. I want to blame some of this on the instructions for not addressing on how to use the Ford switches.
The wiring kit came with a GM light switch use 1 hot wire. The Ford switch uses 2 hot wires. One of these wires is dictated to the courtesy lights.
The kit has one wire for the wiper motor. The Maverick wiper switch uses 2 hot wires, 1 for wiper motor and 1 for the windshield washer pump.
The kit needs 4 wires for the ignition switch. The Ford switch has 7 or 8 wires coming from the ignition switch.
The turn signal connector plug was replaced with the GM style connector. Some of these extra wires went to the key buzzard and gear selector light.
The instrument cluster uses 2 hot wires. One switched hot for the constant voltage regulator and one hot for the warning lights. The warning light feed wire is hot in the run position only. The kit has only 1 switched hot wire for the gauges. Without running a 2nd hot the warning light will be on with key in accessory position.
