Body/Paint

I stripped everything from the car leaving a rolling shell. Both quarter panels were replaced with rust free factory panels to replace the quarters I cut up back in the mid-70's to fit fat tires. The rust damage, which was very minimum for a 60 year old car that spent 58 of those years outside, was cut out and replaces with either new metal or rust free factory panels.

I saved a section of the parts car's dash to repair the radio opening on the '60 that was butchered for an aftermarket unit.

After media blasting, the only real suprise was it wasn't bad at all. Epoxy primer was applied and at least 3 coats of high build primer with block sanding between each coat got things ready slick. Fresh seam sealer is now sealing the seams and 4 coats of single stage Urethane Sky Mist Blue paint gives it the period correct "Brilliant Diamond Lustre Finish" sheen. The interior and radiator support was painted with Rustoleum 7777 satin black. The stainless steel Windshield trim and rain gutters were buffed and polished to like new.

I found a NOS grille at the 2019 Falcon Regional in Tennessee and one NOS head lamp door, tail panel script and hood lettering on eBay.

New fender scripts, trunk emblem, weatherstripping and just about everything else were purchased from Melvin's.
