Heater Control / Bezel

They are 4 different heater controls used in the Maverick/Comet. Two Early Production (70-74), with and without air condition and two Late Production (75-77) with and without air condition. The non-air control has two cables. The air condition controller uses one cable and Rotary Vacuum Switch to operate the diverter valve inside the heater box.

The 75-77 has a lighted “FAN” dial that lit up with the instrument cluster. These controls has a recessed bulb on the left side that lit “FAN” on the bezel. This change also required a change in location of one of the five plastic bezel’s mounting pins. The knobs for the control were also smaller starting in ’75.

Two ventilation dial indicators were used from 1970 to 1977, one for “Heat/Non AC” and one for A/C. The small “FAN” dial was used 75-77.

Early (70-74) bezels had “Fan” cast in the upper left corner of the plastic bezel. These came with and without rear window defogger switch location slot (notice rear defogger is labeled as “DEFOG” on bottom left), and with and without Air Conditioning (see dial). The last digit of the part number determined color and/or with or without rear defogger.

Early (70-74) - Rear Defog, no AC Early (70-74) - w/Rear Defog & AC

Early (70-74) - No AC Early (70-74) - w/AC

Also, another difference is the rear window defogger wording, Early stated “DEFOG” on the bezel and the Late (75-77) bezels state “R. DEFOG”.

Late (75-77) - Rear Defog, no AC Late (75-77) - w/Rear Defog & AC

Late (75-77) - No AC Late (75-77) - w/AC
